A month after we met, we went on a trip across the country together. There was no itinerary– we just explored for the absolute joy of it. And it was awesome.
After deciding that we liked each other enough to start a life together, we now find ourselves in a familiar place. We’ve traveled across the ocean, this time with our kids, on a mission to do God’s will. Carlos is in a band again, but this time I’m a part of it. We’re called Into the Heights.
There’s this beautiful psalm (18:33) that reads, “He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.“
The cool thing about deer feet is that they are expertly crafted to run and stand on almost any terrain without falling. As we’ve faced every trial, we can look back and see how God has caused us to stand firm and not just stand firm but ascend every perilous situation. And we can’t help but praise Him for that.
Praise is what led me to start singing. After Jesus wrecked my life, I couldn’t help but sing my heart out in worship every chance I got. Things just escalated from there as I miraculously ended up on the worship team at our church two years ago. I know it was God because I was definitely unqualified, but forever grateful to grow as a worshipper and singer.
Carlos was already on the team and growing as a guitarist. He began writing more and more songs a couple of years ago– this time about God and venturing out onto the unknown, with lyrics like:
I heard a voice call out to me
Somewhere out beyond the sea
Upon the wind and on the waves
And I’ll never be the same
And we haven’t. Things will never be same after saying yes to the adventure of creating. We pray that as we continue to follow His will in these countries, the songs will continue pouring out of us.
